Hey... What're your thoughts on sun exposure?
In this week's newsletter:☀️ New Burn Research🐋 OG's of Longevity
New Sunburn Discovery
As someone who has spent wayyy too much time in the sun, my recent visit to the dermatolgist was quite scary.Well, at least it was scary leading up to the appointment...Thankfully, I got a clean bill of health. And, perhaps just as importantly, I appeased the stress in the back of my mind. I had been dreading this dermatologist visit because I was almost certain the doctor would find something bad on my skin. Longevity experts around the world have a mixed view on whether sun exposure is good or bad for your health and lifespan. Nearly all health professionals agree that sun exposure is good for your health. But the question is: how much exposure?Depending on who you speak with, you'll get different answers. However, this may be changing...Scientists recently discovered that the immediate inflammatory response in sunburns is triggered by RNA damage rather than DNA damage. This challenges decades of scientific understanding about how UV radiation affects skin. The study, which was conducted by researchers at the University of Copenhagen, could lead to new treatments for sunburns and other inflammatory skin conditions that worsen with sun exposure.Looking even further out, it may be possible to even reverse sun damage. For now, when it comes to your longevity, it's best to visit a dermatologist for a preventative check up.Many longevity doctors have in house skin specilists, so take the initiative and get in front of any potential health issues!
