Pushin' The Envelope: The First Longevity Caucus Launches

One the biggest (if not, THE biggest) problems facing today's nascent longevity industry is the lack of government support to help fuel research efforts.Although investments from the private sector are at all-time highs and foundations are committing millions of dollars to aging research every year, the amount of funding that longevity and other preventative healthcare organizations receive is still a far cry from the more traditional fields of medicine. That's why an announcement this week caught our attention. The longevity industry just got a huge boost, coming from a place you may least expect – the halls of Washington.

Apple's Highly Secretive Health Project Reaches Breakthrough
For 12 years, Apple has been working on a project – codenamed E5 – that aims to measure a person’s glucose without the need of blood.
And
, the company hit a major milestone this week that could lead to the technology coming to the Apple Watch in the very near future.
Of course, this announcement is being covered from the perspective of the millions of diabetics around the world, and for good reason. But, if the technology does what the company believes it can, it would also be a boon for those looking to use biomarkers to extend their health and lifespan.
As we have
, hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised in the past few years by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) companies such as Nutrisense and Levels. These companies aim to put power into consumer’s hands to better understand their health and push for longevity-related changes.
But, as of today, these companies are extremely reliant on glucose monitoring devices provided by DexCom (NASDAQ:DXCM) and Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT). If Apple was able to create a no-prick CGM that combined other health metrics, longevity enthusiasts would better be able to track their metabolic health.
The technology is still years away, but it further cements our thesis that the future of technology is in healthcare.
