Good evening. Welcome back to another issue of Spannr. In this week's newsletter:đ„ Blood in the streets?đ Pubco overviews (new feature)đ Good reads from around the web
Revisiting The Index...

In May 2022, nearly one year ago, Spannr launched the first-ever stock index to track US-listed, publicly-traded companies that are explicitly focused on aging or aim to extend healthy human lifespans. The Index launched with a base price of $100 and, in less than 45 days, soared ~45% to $145.85 on August 15, 2022.Since peaking in August, however, the Index has been steadily losing value â with the index dropping below its base price of $100 as recently as last week.So what gives? Is the public longevity industry struggling? Or, is it just the market impacting all of biotech?Well, a little bit of both. The past 12 months have been absolutely brutal for investors⊠regardless of the sector. But some of the stocks in the index arenât doing their investors (or the index) any favors. Unity Biotechnology (UBX), for example, failed its Phase 2 trial recently, leading to the stock losing more than 60% of its value.Whatâs Next? For now, the chaos has settled, with the index slightly back above its base price of $100. And although investors (biotech investors, in particular) remain on alert for another shoe to drop, any sign of positive market sentiment (disinflation, Fed pivot, etc.) could lead to positive performance for longevity biotech companies.Although the Spannr Longevity Index takes an agnostic view on individual companies (unlike Spannr Ventures) and lists all Pubcoâs doing work in longevity, we aim to provide the most informative and potentially alpha-generating information on the market to longevity investors. So, while the market is down and there is âblood in the streetsâ as they say, we thought it would be useful to highlight some of the research our team has been providing on individual companies.Within the past few months, we've been quietly building out company profiles to explain in greater detail what each Pubco in the space is attacking.Of all our company profiles, here are the most recent:
