The Ultimate Sport for Longevity?

Want to join us in Costa Rica this June? We're sponsoring an event in the Nicoya Peninsula - one of the World's Blue Zones - where we'll be enjoying several days of adventure, learning, and community. Let me back up a second...As a lifelong surfer myself, this may all sound a bit bias... but hear me out!Several years ago I made friends with Felipe Pomar, who was the world's first surfing champion in 1965.Incredibly, he is still surfing today at the age of 81 and is in fantastic physical and mental health. But Felipe isn't the only surfer who has shown resilience throughout the years...Kelly Slater, who just turned 52, is still competing in the World Surf League. His ability to surf at such a high level, at his age, is unbelievable. Almost all of his opponents are less than half his age!Laird Hamilton, who just turned 60, is another incredible example. Laird has been at the forefront of big wave surfing, and is still chasing tower-sized walls of water around the world. The list could go on and on with high level surfers who are still participating in the sport into their 70's, 80's, and even 90's...So, what are the similarities with these surfers who are able to stay in top physical and mental shape? For starters, they stay active, get plenty of rest, and prioritize eating healthy foods (Laird even has his own superfoods company). But there's more...

  • They also prioritize low-impact, high cardio exercises

  • They spend lots of time outside

  • They have strong social circles in and out of the water

  • They have very high optimism (they're always "stoked!")

Of course, there are many other sports and activities that have similar benefits to surfing. However, surfing happens to have a great community that encourages all participants to prioritize their overall health, even when not in the water. So, that's why we're headed to Costa Rica. And you should join usOne more thing...Remember Felipe? Well, he's going to be in Costa Rica with us. He'll be sharing his lifelong habits that have enabled him to be a top athlete into his 80's. Hope to see you there! To your health,CodyFounder, SpannrP.S.: Let us know if you have any questions.
